Ok, so I normally post planet savers on Sunday, but this week  with Earth Day and whales we've had plenty of planet saver posts.  So instead, I'd like to announce a really cool upcoming blog event.  

BLOGMANIA!

What is Blogmania? 
Blogmania is a bi-annual blog event where bloggers around the web are all hosting  giveaway on the same day.  This event will be on Friday, April 30th, 2010.  It's a great chance for readers to discover new and interesting blogs and win free stuff too!  And don't worry, these giveaways should have easy entry requirements so you won't have to go through a dozen steps just to enter like some giveaways.

We have a winner!

First off my apologies for posting this announcement so late in the day.  I've been in touch today through my fabulous new tech toy, my Iphone, but I wasn't able to log in to my blogger account, probably just because I'm still on a learning curve. 

I'm so impressed with all of you wonderful creative and generous entries!  What a generous and thoughtful bunch you are.  In fact with so many wonderful ladies doing great things to improve the world I couldn't choose a favorite.  Instead I had Ben choose a random winner after all. Not only did Courtney and her husband start a non-profit group to help her communty to increase cultural and economic diversity through hosting quarterly community conversations but she is working toward a goal of helping minoity students at a local university with a home-away from home program.  Hard to believe she still has time to make these adorable Sesame Street inspired hats and other crocheted items she sells at her Etsy Shop

Pay It Forward Giveaway! Celebrating 1000 Facebook Fans

Yesterday I watched in anticipation as the fan count rolled over from 999 to 1000 and as of this morning I'm looking at 1012 people from across the country + a few from around the world who are supporting FatBottomBags and my effort to recycle and repurpose plastic shopping bags and that's just on Facebook! 

So, as you may know, my favorite way to celebrate and show my appreciation is with a giveaway.  You may also know that Facebook administrators have made it now nearly impossible for a little guy like me to host a giveaway through their site.  No problem, we'll just host it here on the BLOG :0)

Here's the details:

The winner of this giveaway will receive 1 bag of their choice from the FatBottomBags online store (I'll be posting more new bags over the course of the next 2 weeks)  The contest will run from today through February 25th.

This is not a random generated number giveaway. One of my goals with FatBottomBags recycling project is to encourage others to make a difference in the world.  I've learned through my own experience that one person really can have a far reaching impact.

Break over and back to work

It was lovely to take a break from bags for a couple weeks.  That's the thing when you work for yourself, seems like you never take time off.  I know that's true for me.  But this year I decided it was important to give myself a break, a Christmas vacation of sorts.  It was nice, but now that we're into the second week of the new year I knew it was time to refocus on my crafting for a greener planet.

So if you are a new reader and don't know about my FatBottomBags,  they are all made from recycled plastic shopping bags that I collect from friends and family. My goal is to save as many of those rotten plastic bags from going into the waste stream as possible.  I cut them all up and sort them by color and then crochet them into one of a kind purses, backpacks and totebags.

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours sorting and cutting 500 newly contributed plastic bags.  Then I went on to start on some new bags and purses for the store.  I worked on a new purse all evening and finished it off this morning. So here's what I've been up to:

Ok, so now it's on to some more domestic chores like finish the laundry and grocery shopping!

Facebook Fan Appreciation Giveaway!

So much for silence this Sunday.  I tried to make it a photo only blog day and take a blogging break..... but when I went over to post the link on our Facebook fan page I was plesantly suprised to see over 600 smiling faces of fans staring back at me.  600 + fans of recycling and recycled bags!  Yay!  This seems like a cause for celebration!  What better way to celebrate than a GIVEAWAY!

Ok so I have to admitt, I've been slacking a little on bags since Christmas.  I took a little bag break to work on some crochet projects for my new *beautiful* granddaughter.   This means the store front is still currently empty (shame on me) and I don't have any large bags completed for a giveaway right now.  What I do have is one very cute Mini-bag.  Mini-bags are great as a small handbag or even a lunch tote.

I'm following Kojodesigns blog because she's making a lot of really cute clothes for little girls.   She's done a fantastic tutorial to show us all how we can make our own ruffled dress from a Tshirt!
